A Gramercy Opera Christmas
featuring 'Story of An Hour' and 'A Child's Christmas in Wales'

This December, Gramercy Opera returns to Brooklyn’s exclusive Montauk Club for ‘A Gramercy Opera Christmas’. Following the smash success of ‘Dickens’ A Christmas Carol -The Opera’, Gramercy Opera will present the award winning opera ’Story of an Hour’. Based on the 1894 short story by Kate Chopin, in a classic operetta-esque style, 'Story of an Hour' is a one-act opera set in the 1800s during the Christmas season. it follows the story of a fatal train accident and the consequences it has on two young women- one of whom's husband is believed to have been on the train.

Synopsis:
As the winner of the 'Salzman Gramercy Opera Advancement Prize', Gramercy Opera is THRILLED to be producing: 'Story of an Hour'. Based on the1894 short story by Kate Chopin, in a classic operetta-esque style, 'Story of an Hour' is a one-act opera.
Louise, a young woman in delicate health, rejoices to be celebrating Christmas with her sister, Josephine, a successful novelist who has moved from New Orleans to Bath, England. All that is missing from this “perfect” holiday is Louise’s husband, Brently, who is due back via train after a business trip to London. But Josephine learns that Brently’s train has crashed, leaving no survivors, and must break the news to her younger sister. Louise’s unexpected reaction, and the shocking events that follow, are devastating to all.
